Dear Friends- October is such an exciting time of year in The Carolinas. Not only are the trees putting on a spectacular show, but fantastic events are planned for each weekend.
Pick you own apples while enjoying flights of cider at Windy Hill Orchard. Make sure to take home one of their amazing apple pies.
Boo at the Zoo and the Trick or Treat Dinner Party are held at the Riverbanks Zoo. I highly recommend the awesome trick-or-treating, marshmallow roast and foam dance club surrounded by wild animals.
Going to the Ren Faire for massive turkey legs, shows, real-life Dungeon & Dragons role-playing, and other activities is a great way to enjoy the weather and have fun. There are special events each weekend so make sure to check out the calendar.
Most of all, be on the lookout for the amazing Halloween decorations! Several neighborhoods are known for their incredible displays including ones that change every day. Nextdoor.com posts the best neighborhoods for decorations and trick-or-treating. They also post many alternative events for those who don't celebrate.
Fall festivals will be held around the city and surrounding counties throughout October and November. Oktoberfest will be celebrated as well at many of the local breweries and restaurants. Head uptown to Truist Field for the Mecklenburg Oktoberfest. Admission is free.
Bringing the month to a fantastic close is the 20th Anniversary of the Day of the Dead Celebration sponsored by The Latin American Coalition. Many local Mexican bakeries will have Pan De Muertos (Dead Bread) available or you can make it at home (Pan De Muertos Recipe). I admit, this bread is so dense I can only eat it if it’s accompanied by Mexican hot chocolate. Remember to watch Coco, eat Dead Bread, and make your altars.
